Giuseppe Maurizio Scutellà was born in Alcamo (Trapani) in 1962. The following year moved with his family to Lumezzane (Brescia) where he went to school and received a diploma in industrial mechanics in 1981.
He was a Senior Project tech designer designing the equipment and moulds for high tech companies such as Ducati Bonfiglioli, Kawasaki, Sylber, Mercedes, Gaggia, Metalwork, Fini, Prisma, Tronconi, Artemide and more. He worked as Senior Designer for Marci&Co (design division of Elettroplastica S.p.A.), a successful company in household sectors. Also cooperates with Mepra SpA and Pandora Design as a designer of high tech stainless steel and plastic household items, as well as with United Pets.
His cooperation with Artemide S.p.A started in 2008. He designed Pirce pendant lamp for Artemide and won several awards; Cover New Product 2008, winner of a Good_design award 2008, a Red Dot Award 2009 and IFF Design Award 2010.
His brilliant approach is summarized as follow “A technical illumination object has a soul, it tells a story, it is often a poem without words. Light has an own scent, a sweeping, shiny sound, it is wonderfully vivid and dynamic, intimae and soft. I respect its essence and hug its language out of light and shadows and try to make multiple interpretations possible in my projects. This is my way of getting nearer to light’s magic.”
