Not many home owners understand the importance of proper bathroom lighting. They spend a lot when it comes to purchasing living room, dining room or bedroom lighting but refuse to invest in proper modern bathroom lighting fixtures. Hence it is time you ensure that your bathrooms have proper lighting fixtures; after all, the bathroom is a place where you spend the beginning and the end of your day.
Though bathroom lighting is not publicly visible it is essential that the lighting fixtures provide adequate amounts of illumination for the everyday grooming tasks to be done comfortably. Hence the main lighting fixture in your bathroom should be combined with other lighting fixtures like mirror lights and wall sconces.
Mirror Lights:
Mirror lights are also known as vanity lights. These lights should get top priority when purchasing lighting fixtures for your bathroom. The mirror lights provide additional illumination to help you beautify and groom your face comfortably. They are very handy for doing simple things like applying makeup, shaving, twee-zing, etc. Mirror lights are extremely flexible for use since they can be placed all around the mirror and not just on top. Overhead mirror lights are never convenient since they cast shadows which make it difficult to see your face clearly in the mirror.
Cones or vertical mirror lights can also be placed on either sides of the mirror to help you see your face proportionally. While fixing mirror lights on either sides of the mirror ensure that your mirror is portrait and not landscape. Lights placed on the sides of a landscape mirror lose their purpose and are impractical. Though the lights can be mounted on the mirror itself it would be costly.
However if you have a landscape mirror you can easily fix this problem by mounting a two feet long light on top of the mirror. The lighting fixture should have at least three bulbs or one long yellow tube light of 150 watts.
You can effectively use hanging pendant lights even in your bathroom. Some pendant lights are extremely creative where the main light bulbs are hidden by additional string lights.
Shower Lights:
Like you place strong and bright lights over the sink area in your kitchen to wash your vegetables and dishes you also need to place bright lights in your shower area to help you see more clearly while in the shower. The lights must be placed parallel to your body. You can use recessed lights or wall sconces in the shower area. However ensure that the lighting fixtures in the shower area come with a dimmer switch to regulate the intensity of the light according to individual preferences.
Track lights can also be used inside and outside the shower area. Track lights not only provide better visibility in the shower but also help accentuate the beautiful features of the bathroom like fittings, tile work, etc.
People use the bathroom to get ready for the day and before they go to sleep hence modern bathroom lighting fixtures should be purchased carefully for comfort and for personal hygiene.
