Modern Track lighting is one of the popular although little misunderstood in its application and installation. It can change the entire way your office or home looks but its application can be sometimes very confusing. A surface mounted with channel that holds the lighting units (or "heads") in place and brings power to them is called a Track. They are particularly easy to install, more so in remodel applications. There are a lot of ways you can install a track to as it has a surface it can be mounted to the ceiling, to a wall, a beam or dropped from the ceiling on stems or cables. With the help of special adapters, power can be fed from the end (an "end feed" or "live end") or anywhere along the channel.
Special adapters help in making various track layout configurations for e.g. corners have ("L") and for branching out ("T"). Usually it has been found that the various track components are only compatible within a given product line, which means that company X’s parts will not fit on company Y’s track. To avoid glares and shadows these lights should either shine at a near wall or directly down on a work surface to serve its purpose in the best possible way. Track lights primarily are an accent and task light. Since you have your artefacts, furniture and architecture in your home ideally the track should be placed 18 -36 inches out from the wall (for most normal ceiling heights) to give it a better effect.
Mostly people prefer track lighting because they suit your space; and can also get a custom configuration that's tailored to your own specific needs. Once the track gets its place on the ceiling or on the wall, you can reposition the lights based upon your changing requirements and occasions. They are very cost effective, energy efficient and highly customizable, with detachable light sources that can easily be rearranged to match with ever changing decor of your home or office.
There are various types of tracks available and below mentioned are the few names:
- Standard Track
- Monorail Track
- Two-Circuit Monorail Track
- Cable
Selecting fewer elements when using larger size fixtures to avoid a crowded look on your track run is the best decision that you can make. Accent and Wall Wash Lighting are two sub types of track lighting which has their own uniqueness. They are used for displaying pictures, book cases, and decorative pieces placed on a wall. Pendants are fixtures that hang below the track lighting system on a flexible cable. Pendants are used to provide both light and color accents. Commonly pendants are often installed individually without using a track system they may also be easily snapped in to a new or existing track system depending upon your choice and requirements.
Versatility is the key feature of Modern Track lighting as you can opt to move the heads around, add more units, change types, point them in different directions, you can experiment your whole world of imagination with it.
